SERIES 12F & SERIES 18T

AUTOMATICALLY PITCHED INDUSTRIAL FANS

GENERAL INSTRUCTIONS: Amarillo Chittom AirFlo Manually Pitched Industrial Fans are engineered to exact standards and manufactured to rigid requirements. While ruggedly constructed and made from the best materials available, they still should be considered as precision equipment. Due to the precision balance of each blade, reasonable care should be taken during the unpacking and installation of the fan. Properly installed, your Amarillo Chittom AirFlo Fan will give you years of efficient service. Below you will find step-by-step instructions for properly installing your Amarillo Chittom AirFlo Fan. The tools required are a torque wrench with 9/16"; 3/4"; 15/16" and 1 1/8" sockets, a machinists protractor, a screwdriver and a rubber mallet.

The CHECO fan package should consist of:

  1. Hub assembly
  2. Appropriate number of blades
  3. 4 split lock washers and 4 socket head cap screws per blade
  4. 2 air hoses

wpe1FE.jpg (10608 bytes) wpe201.jpg (1089 bytes)TO INSTALL THE HUB ASSEMBLY

(a) Remove bushing from bottom of fan hub assembly. Position bushing on fan shaft with shaft even with top of bushing and tighten two sets screws in bushing as shown in photo No. 1

(b) Replace hub assembly on bushing and install the four 1/2" mounting bolts as shown in photo No. 2. Torque mounting bolts to 45 ft. lbs. Fan hub assembly should be straight and tight on fan shaft. wpe1FF.jpg (9224 bytes)
wpe200.jpg (8443 bytes) wpe202.jpg (1168 bytes) TO INSTALL THE BLADES

(a) When blades are marked, place in opposite pairs. That is, blade "A" opposite blade "A", etc. as shown in photo 3. The blade's leading edge (thick side), must be installed toward the direction of the specified rotation. (CW or CCW)

(b) Aligning the bolt holes in  he flange ion the blade with the bolt holes in the flange ring on the hub, start all four bolts (be sure to put lock washers on) and tighten them "barely snug". See photo No. 4. wpe20A.jpg (7206 bytes)
wpe207.jpg (1151 bytes)TO SET THE BLADE ANGLE

(a) Place a machinist protractor at the top of the blade flange, with the desired angle set on the protractor. (See blade angle marked on blade or on drawings.) See photo 5. To set proper angle of attack, the blade trailing edge (thin side) must be higher than the blade leading edge (thick side).

(b) If slight adjustment is needed, use a rubber mallet and tap blade shank as shown in photo No. 5, watching protractor bubble. Repeat for each blade.

It should be noted here that some fans are ordered to increase pitch angle with increasing air pressure, while others increase pitch angle with decreasing air pressure. The above directions are for a fan that increases pitch angle with decreasing air pressure.

wpe20A.jpg (7206 bytes)
If you have a fan that has minimum pitch angle with no air pressure, follow the above steps after putting 40 P.S.I. on the supply air connection See photo No. 6

After getting the proper blade angle setting on each blade, tighten the four socket head cap screws evenly and recheck blade angle setting. Torque cap screws to 45 ft. lbs.

wpe208.jpg (1146 bytes)TO INSTALL THE AIR LINES

To attach the control or signal air line and the supply air line, refer to photo No. 6. The top connection is the supply connection, and 35-40 PSI clean and dry air must be used. The lower hose or side connection (photo No. 6) is signal or control connection. Caution: do not load the air union radially as this will cause excessive wear and eventual failure.

wpe20C.jpg (1122 bytes)FOR SINGLE PASSAGE UNIONS

Fan supplied with single passage rotary air unions are provided with only one air hose which is connected to the elbow at the top of the union. There is no positioner and signal air (3 to 15 PSIG) acts directly on the diaphragm to effect automatic operation.

MAINTENANCE

The only part in the Amarillo Chittom AirFlo Automatic Fan requiring lubrication is the rotary air union (see photo No. 6). There is a grease fitting provided on the side of the union for this purpose. Every 6 months, pump a shot of high temperature grease into this fitting.

After 4 hours operation, check blade bolts for the possibility that they may have loosened during service. Retighten if needed. Check set screws holding hob on shaft at the same time.
